Kriegsmarine casuality in the Adria.

Hello,

I have a deathcard of Maschinengefreiter Horst Dewald.
He died on the 18th of September, 1944 in the Adria, when he was only 19 years old.
What interrested me that he had a Star of David on his deathcard, what could indicate that he was Jewish.
But, is there any information about Kriegsmarine ships being sunk in that period?
The deathcard stated that he died a "Seemannstod", could that mean that he and his ship were sunk?
I could only find some information about the commanding admirals in the Adriatic Sea;

I only found that on 17.9.1944. in port of Zadar (Zara) MFP-962 and MFP-972 were destroyed by Allied bombers.

Seemanstod could also mean that he died because of an accident, so that he maybe fell over board and was not rescued.
