Wal 247-Wal 252 (8 ton Do J IId Bis) Dornier Manzell were ordered in May 1933. These six military flying boates were delivered without armament and with civil registration (D-3018, D-3019, D-3020, D-3021, D-3022, D-3023) to the Seeflugzeug-Erprobungsstelle Travemünde (Sea plane test station Travemünde), a camouflaged organisation for German air rearmament. From 1934, these boats were known as D-ABAU, D-ABER, D-ATEZ, D-ABAS, D-ADEN, D-AFIS.
