Hi Peter,

Here is another link (in french) with information and pictures on the conversion of the cruiser Canarias into an aircraft carrier:

I send also another two Republican Navy OOBs in 1938 (March 1st) and 1939 (February 4th).

Hi Juan,

very helpful, your org's  top .
I have two questions about the involvement of the german Kriegsmarine.
1.Some sources say, that without the help of 2 german Panzerschiffe the "convoy of victory" never cross the Strait of Gibraltar and the insurrection of the generals Franco, Mola and Sanjuro would fail.
2. German warships shooting republican refugees-treks on costal streets in 1938. Truth or rumours?

Hello Spee;

Here go the answers to your questions:

1. I've never heard anything about the help of 2 German panzerschiffe to the "convoy of victory"; of course they didn't take part in the action. But the help and overall support of Germany and Italy to the military insurrection was decisive for the final victory of the fascists.

2. The only coastal bombardments by foreign warships against Republican territory were made by Italian and German warships in 1937. The Italian attacks were covered operations made by night. The German one (bombardment of Almeria) was a reprisal for the attacks of Republican aircrafts against German warships anchored at Nationalist ports. Here is a chronology of these actions:

January 12th, 1937.- Italian submarine Pietro Calvi shells the port of Valencia (71 shots with 120mm guns)

January 18th, 1937.- Italian submarine Torricelli shells the port of Barcelona (43 shots with 100mm guns)

February 2nd, 1937.- Italian submarine Ciro Menotti shells the La Herradura bridge, near Malaga (27 shots with 102mm guns)

February 3rd, 1937.- Italian submarine Ciro Menotti shells the Calanda viaduct, near Malaga (35 shots with 102mm guns)

February 8th, 1937.- Italian submarine Ettore Fieramosca shells the Morrot dock in Barcelona harbor (10 shots with 120mm guns)

February 9th, 1937.- Italian submarine Ettore Fieramosca shells again the Morrot dock in Barcelona harbor and damages lightly the tanker Zorroza (35 shots with 120mm guns)

February 12th, 1937.- Italian submarine Topazio shells the port of Valencia (34 shots with 100mm guns)

February 13th, 1937.- Italian cruiser Eugenio di Savoia shells Barcelona (72 shots with 152mm guns)

February 14th, 1937.- Italian cruiser Emanuele Filiberto Duca d'Aosta shells Valencia (125 shots with 152mm guns)

May 31st, 1937.- German panzerschiffe Admiral Scheer and torpedo boats Albatros, Seeadler, Luchs and Leopard shell Almeria (Admiral Scheer: 94 shots with 280mm guns, 100 with 150mm guns and 48 with 88mm guns. Albatros and Seeadler: 33 shots with 105mm guns; Luchs and Leopard didn't open fire)

Spee is on holiday for two weeks so it might take a couple of days before he is able to read your list.  :MZ:

Jimenez

Liebe Leute,

Agur!

pothkan

Hello,

I've added Basque navy in my webpage: http://worldnavies.glt.pl/
(direct link: http://www.hicon.pl/~pothkan/hhwn/Basque_Country.html)

Of course, based also on data given here :)

If anyone has anything to add or correct (errarum humanum est :|), feel free to do so. I don't know builders of small vessels (most of), also later (and final) fates of some ships are unknown...

Best regards,
Oskar

Hello!

Long time since my last post. I have been working on a new web on the Basque Navy in 1936-39. And yesterday we presented it. It is in four languages: Basque, Spanish, English and French (not in German. Sorry! But there are a couple of links with a German version of the Basque Government magazine "Baskische Nachrichten"). With a lot of photographs, some videos and more than 200 documents of the Civil War-era.

These are the links:

Moin moin,

Zitatdass die Sowjetunion 2 G-5 TKA an die Republikaner geliefert hatte.
ich hab von 4 G-5 (der IX. Serie) TKA gelesen...
