Hi Urs,

I think the DkiG man is only Oberleutnant and Meyering is Kptlt at this time. It looks like that on two of the group photos (always difficult to see). He also moves to the side when more officers (Kptlt Siems etc.) comes. They are normaly standing in rank order when posing on group photos.

I thought it could be Hans Besser Sperwaffenoffizier Stab FdS but he was also Kptlt.
Commander on HvW Oblt Jacobson did not have any DkiG.
I will keep looking.

Zitat von: Urs Heßling am 30 Oktober 2024, 15:09:39Nach Befehl : praktisch gleichzeitig
Bis zum 2.7.1944 ist Oblt.z.S. Stohwasser stv. Flottillenchef, ab 3.7. Kptlt Holzapfel
Im KTB FdS für den Zeitraum 1.- 15.7. wird Holzapfel als Flottillenchef genannt.

Great Urs!
I think this is exactly what we see on this photo. 5 Sftl, HvW, S 65 "PS", S 80 and S 67 in Sassnitz early July 1944. More photos here in my post #1716. Link: https://forum-marinearchiv.de/smf/index.php?topic=18105.1710
The "PS" marking is then from Paul Sobotka and is left from when he handed over S 65 to 8 SFtl in 1943!

Thanks

Hi

Holzapfel / 5 Sftl in Finland

There are several photos that looks like they were taken in a forest. I think they must be from the camouflaged HvW in Finland. Akira posted some coler photos here: https://www.forum-marinearchiv.de/smf/index.php/topic,38890.0.html

I do not know any of the officers or why they have civilan visitors.

The 5 Sftl is also photographed in a forest. Looks like Holzapfel is making a speach. Could it be about Finlands withdrawel from the war? It also looks like they are being inspected. The officers have thire swords.

Hi

The MStA with the 5 Sftl is probebly Dr. Nikolaus Wege.

The last Holzapfel photos are with 7 SFtl in the Med.

1. Two officers (Oblt and Lt?). Who can it be? What does the bar above the pocket mean on the Oblt?

2. La Spezia, probebly S 151, note italian air recognition red white stripes. It looks like this photo is from the same roll as no. 1.

3. Holzapfel in Dec 1943 by Viareggio.

4-5.  S 151. Can anyone read the signature on the "Freigegeben" stamp on the back? Is it an italian ship on the last photo?

Ich meine mich zu erinnern, daß das Bild auch im Kemnade-Buch Die Afrika-Flottille vorhanden ist und einer der Beiden als Oblt.z.S Marxen bezeichnet wurde

Holzapfel ?

Hi Urs,

I can't find the photo in my edition of Die Afrikaflottille. I do like Marxen as the Oblt. I think he looks like the guy to the left on the S 152 Heye photo. Linke post # 1938: https://forum-marinearchiv.de/smf/index.php?topic=18105.1935

There is some confusion over Marxen's rank in HMA. It say Lt on the S 152 and S 157 pages and Oblt in his profile.

Yes, it could be Holzapfel's signature. Could he free his own photos?

Hej PS,

I think the 1000 Ford trucks are intresting. Were they part of the aborted british plan to take the swedish iron ore mines at the same time as helping Finland?

Seems like the cargo was intended for Finland. Some of the ships in Bergen(area) 9th of april when the germans invaded had cargo intended for Finland. Flying Fish had been in Narvik, unloaded some(all?) of the cargo.
All in all, 1676 Ford trucks intended for Finaland. 1200 of them in Bergen (Charles McCormick just outside Bergen)
