Ergänzung aus dem Admirality War Diary für May 1944:

Zitat4. U.S. destroyer MENGES, escorting Convoy G.U.S.38 was torpedoed aft by a U-Boat at 0142 to-day in 37.01 N. 05.29 E (off Bougie) and was towed to Algiers (arrived 4 May). The U-Boat was hunted and sunk in 36.50 N. 05.34 E early on 4th May by BLANKNEY and U.S. destroyer SUSTAIN, but not until it had torpedoed the French destroyer SENEGALAIS in the early hours of to-day; the latter was towed to Jijeli. The C.O. and 48 of the compliment of the U-Boat were taken prisoners.

U-Boat surfaced at 0352/4th and was engaged by F.S. SENEGALAIS who forced U-Boat to dive. U-Boat then torpedoed SENEGALAIS. BLANKNEY and U.S.S. SUSTAIN gained contact ans carried out depth Charge attacks. U-Boat sank at 0440/4th in 036° 50'N 005° 34'E. 49 prisonders taken including C.O. Ober-Leutnant zur See Fenski.
SENEGALAIS arried Jijelli in tow. Hunting Forces consisted of U.S. JE CAMPBELL (S.O.), U.S.S. PRIDE, U.S.S. SUSTAIN, BLANKNEY, SS. DENEGALAIS F.S. L`ALCYON with air co-operation.

auch die Admiralität kann sich irren: Sustain war "nur" ein Minensucher (Auk-Klasse)
