Hi,

I found one more typ S 18 photo when I was checking the boat details.

The two ropes are indicating that the boat has the mast in place. They are then training torpedo shooting and the photo must be related to the previous "Rügen" snap shot (my post 1873)

I still think it is S 20 with commander Schnebel.

Hi,

The photo album continues whith Hotel Astoria i de Haan, Belgium. It must be that they followed Meyerling when he took over S 101 after S 20 got damaged in the ice in Wilhelmshaven. Meyerling got S 101 on 24 Jan 1942 in Rotterdam and he left for Ostende (close to de Haan) on 31 Jan.

1. The back of Hotel Astoria, then and now.
2. The S 20 / S 101 crew at the front door in thier best uniforms.
3. The crew looking out towards the sea and the neighbouring hotel Dunepanne.
4. In the room. The album man is to the left.

Hi,

After de Haan / Ostende the album man went to Wilhelmshaven. S 10, S 11 and S 13 were locked in the ice there. Meyerling was also commander (since 1 March) of S 10 in addition to S 101. Schnebel was commander of S 11 (since 16 Feb). The Album man was probably on one of these boats. (HMA)

1. S 10, S 11 and S 13 in the ice in Wilhelmshaven.
2. The album man (seconde from left) on one of the boats. It is the Banter Kaserne in the back ground. Not the mercedes stars on the caps indicating that they had specialist training by Deimler Benz.
3. The boats and the Banter Kaserne. The Kaserne is all gone now.
4. The album man is second from left. The Banter Kaserne was taken over by the British and used as a boarding (Prince Rupert) school in 1947-1972.
5. Banter Kaserne.

Hi,

Next in the 6 Sftl photo album is the new boat S 113. Schnebel got the boat at the Schlichting Werft in Travemünde on 14 March 1942.

1. Schlichting Werft with Schnebel and album man no. 2 from the left. Now the wharf is totaly gone.
2. Wating to raise the flag on S 113. Note that the construction tent is still in place and the missing dodgers.
3. The album man to the left. He is now Maschinistengefreiter,
4. The album man in work clothes (no. 4 from the left). S 113 was stuck in the ice until 12 April in Travemünde.

Hi,

The offical photo with the S 113 crew at the Schlichting Werft. I think it is Johannes and Rudolf Schlichting in the first row. The album man is in the third row, no 7 from the left. There are 36 men in uniform. Are there two crews? S 112 or S 114?
Can any information come from the photo number "36712"?

Hm.
Ich erlaube mir die Bemerkung, daß der Kommandant im Bild Nitsche (Kdt S 114) ähnlicher aussieht als Schnebel

Yes, I can see the similarity too. Still I think it is Schnebel based on the ears and the eye brows. There are more photos of the commander in the album. I will post them later.

Hi Besitzer,

Zitat von: Besitzer am 18 Juli 2023, 15:17:39hier noch ein Bild von den Schnellboten in Wilhelmseinhafen......

Your photo is one of several post cards from Nordseeverlag (Nr. 324). I have two more (Nr. 260 and 262). They all show the 1 S-Bootflottille by the Hafeninsel in Wilhelmshaven.
The Nr. 262 card was probably printed in 1935/36 with the old Reichkriegsflagge. My card was posted 10 Sep 1936.
The Nr. 260 and Nr. 324  were printed later (war time?) with the new Reichkriegsflagge. My cards were posted 1939 and 1940. I suspect that all the photos were taken in summer 1935 and that the new flags have been painted on the two later cards.

The text "Flottentender Saar" is wrong. It is Tsingtau.

Do anyone know of more Wilhelmshaven cards in this serie from Nordseeverlag?

Hi,

The 6 Sftl album continues with Bergen in Norway. S 113 go there on 25 April 1942.

1. S 113 pass the main/old harbour Vågen in Bergen.
2 and 3. They are going to Damsgårdssundet
4 and 5. S 113 and Laksevåg in the back ground. Note the british barret on one of the crew. Why do they have flowers on the ariel? The boats shows some typical Schlichting details. S 113 is the last boat with the glas screen behind the bridge .

S 113 left Bergen on 28 April to go to Kristiansand-Nord (HMA). What is the Norwegian name for "Kristiansand-Nord"? I cant find the place.

PS

Hello
Its not Kristiansand Nord. Its KristiansUnd Nord. Earlier we often used the term Kristiansand Sør(south) and KristiansUnd Nord(north). Now its just Kristiansand and Kristiansund.

Hi,

Thank you PS.
Kristiansund is always written as Kristiansand-Nord in HMA. Can this be a misstake made already by the Krigsmarine (or is it made by the computer with auto correct)?

PS

Hello
It can be both, autocorrect and mistake done by the KM. I have seen it in some ktb and its also mentioned here: https://forum-marinearchiv.de/smf/index.php?topic=9124.msg105505#msg105505

Hi,

I am glad I am not the only one that had this problem. Thanks PS.

S 113 left Bergen on 28 April 1942 and got to Svolvaer on 1 May. I think these photos shows parts of that trip. S 113 is probably not camouflaged yet. Note the typical 6 Sftl french green parkas. The flowers on the arial from Bergen is still there. One of the crew has a britsh barett and a battle dress jacket.

Is it possible to say where it is based on the mountins? Lofoten?
