you are right, the title called "Das gehobene Wrack des Schnellboot-Begleitschiff "Carl Peters", Geltinger Bucht, Oktober 1950 ". During 1948-1952 the wrecks of the ships und submarines were recovered (?) from the ground of the Geltinger Bucht.

In the book you will also find the History of the end of U999 from Kdt Wolfgang Heibges

Hi,

There are two photos showing Schnellboote markings on Ebay de. I think they are 1 S-Ftl, Boulogne, ~summer 1940. I think one is Fimmen's S 19 (stalking panter). I can not see what the other one is. Dragon over/attacking a Schnellboot?

to me, it looks like a griffin/gryphon, in German "Greif" (there´s a possible relation to the torpedoboat with the same name)

what had baffled me was the camouflage painting on the torpedo tube ...

Here is my solution proposal: this is one of the MAN-engine equipped boats of "Schnelle U-Jagd-Gruppe" /" Fast ASW Group" (S 14, S 15 or S 16, since 8/1940); look at the high air induct behind the man in leather standing behind (in the picture: left of) the bridge.

Hypothesis: The ship-like silhouette in the symbol´s lower part shows a submarine attacked by ... some kind of a bird

Hi,

I think Urs might be right. I have looked through all my books for camoflaged torpedo tubes.

I am still not very good att identifying the diffrent types of early boots.

There is:
Typ S 7  (S 7 - S 9) MAN motor
Typ S 10 (S 10 - S 13) MB motor
Typ S 14 (S 14 - S 17) MAN motor
typ S 18 (S 18 - S 25) MB motor

The Schnelle U-Jagd Gruppe had S 8, S 9, S 14, S 15 and S 16 in 1940.

Photo 1 A typ S 14 (or typ S 18?) in Ostende 1940.
Photo 2 A typ S 7 (or typ S 10) and a typ S 14 (or typ S 18). Where? When?
Photo 3 A typ S 7 (or typ S 10) Norway 1940 camoflage? No mast indicates after Weserübnung.

Maybe they are all showing the Schnelle U-Jagd Gruppe?

I think that your "SUJG 1" shows a boat from the "S 14-17" batch, but I have only the high air intakes as an indicator.

For pictures 2 and 3, I feel unable to tell.

Hallo Schnellboote-Fans, entschuldigt bitte meine Unkenntnis, aber gab es bei der deutschen WkII Schnellbootwaffe so was ähnliches wie ein Handbuch für U-Boot-Kommandanten bei der U-Bootwaffe? Mich würde ganze Reihe taktische Merkmale und Grundsätze des Schnellbooteneinsatzes interessieren, aber kann sie nirgendwo finden (Anordnung über Angriffe auf Handelschiffe - Einzelfahrer, Konvois, Kriegsschiffe, Handeln der Schnellbootkommandanten, Verwendung der Nachrichtenmittel, Grundsätze der Minenoperationen usw.), also das, was auf der Schnellbootschule gelernt wurde. Sicherlich wurden diese Grundsätze formuliert oder?

Existierte also ein Handbuch für Schnellbootkommandanten?

es gibt dafür z.B. die M.Dv. 13 "Seekriegsanleitung", TeiL II, Heft i: "Schnellbootstaktik" von 1937. Zum Waffeneinsatz finden sich taktische Grundsätze in den verschiedenen Heften des Teil III derselben Marinedienstvorschrift.

Außerdem gab es die "Fahrvorschrift für Schnellboote" betr.:
- Fahrtstufen, Maschinengebrauch, Rudergebrauch,
- Seemännische Manöver wie A- u. Ablegen, Ankern, Schleppen, Wurfbeutelübergabe
- Standardformationen, Abstände (Normalabstand 1 hm = 100 m)
- Taktische manöver in der Formation: Wendungen, Schwenkungen, Sammeln, Angriff
- und die entsprechenden Blink- und Flaggensignale
