Hi,

More S 29.

S 29 went from Libau to Windau on 17 July and continued to Riga. S 29 was also in Windau on 4 Aug and then came back 17-29 Aug.

There is one "Treu" and several "Joern" photos from Windau. They are probably taken in second half of Aug when the crew is preparing for a day off or something. Any speculations?

Yes, that makes sense of the boots. Is it possible to say anything about the date based on Adolf Lüderitz in the background?

I wonder if they are doing the same on this photo and are ticking of equipment on lists? Is the suite case the boat "office"?

Nein, nicht wegen AL.

Aber es fanden am 22.- 24.8. wegen Schlechtwetter keine Einsätze statt.

Wenn das absehbar ist, kann Hafendienst angeordnet werden, und eine Kleidermusterung wäre dafür ein gutes Beispiel.

Hi Urs,

Yes, the weather looks overcast and the crew does not look happy like they would if they were getting some leave.
The other photo with the writing crew must be from another sunnier day. It actually looks more like they are doing a test.

S 29 continued to Riga on 17 July. I have not found any photos from the boat there. There are a few tourist photos of the city showing the freedom monument, in front of the theater and the market halls. It is all still there.

Hi,

I think I have found the source for a boat going long side with Lacplesis and the Sprängpatrone on 22 July. It is found in Kemnads book Die Afrikaflottille. I am sure this boat was S 29 and it is from Lacplesis that the flags seen in Zopot are coming from.

S 29 left with S 54 from Riga to Danzig on 4 Aug and are in Zopot on 5 Aug. They then continued to Neufahrwasser (probably on the 5 Aug as well).

Note Oblt Schmidt in Neufahrwasser.

Hi,

I have some more S 29 photos from Danzig that are showing what is happening in front of the two boats (S 54, S 29) on Joern's S29a photos.

They are at the Schichau werft (with Danziger werft in the back ground as Urs said) and they are looking at the commissioning of U 404 on 6 Aug. S 54 is to the right in the photos.

The buildings are still there.

There is a lot of interesting details on the photo. I think this is the first time Nebelbojen and Feuerbojen are used.
How should the stamp on the back be read? That no one has checked the photo or that someone has checked it and that there was nothing to censor?

Hi,

S 29 and S 108 left Windau on 29 Aug and arrived in Suomenlinna (Helsinki) on 30 Aug to join the rest of the 1 SFtl.

There is a photo showing the Harmaja lighthouse outside Helsinki probably taken from inside S 29.

There is also a photo of S 40 by KB Schwarz taken at the same place. The war time version (to the left) hides the location. The post war version (to the right) hides the flag. Note S 24 in the Channel 1940 on the small insert.

The lighthouse is still there. The wooden buildings are replaced by concrete.

S 40 is the first Lürssen boat with the standard "Winkerstand". It is not S 108 that never got the Baltic camouflage (more later with S 29).
S 24 has Töniges tiger Wappen as we saw here: post # 1416 https://www.forum-marinearchiv.de/smf/index.php/topic,18105.1410.html
The S 24 photo is part of a series taken with a long range camera in the Channel.
