I now have an idea on how the 2 S-SchulFtl boats were numbered. It is all based on photos and the information in HMA

Mir fehlen die KTB der Schulflottille / später Lehrdivision + Schulflottillen sehr
Ich wüßte schon gern, welcher Kommandant mit welchem Boot geübt hat.

Hi Urs,

Yes, there is not a lot on the SSchulFtl.

There is some photos taken by KB Oblt Warnke when he was with 2 S-SchulFtl. They were published in Die Kriegsmarine ~April-July 1944. Two commanders on the covers. The Obersteuermann is on the same boat as Warnke.

There are deck photos that is probably taken on a boat Warnke was on. The commander is a Obersteuermann and he has the 1. WO. with him. Who could they be and what boat number?

There was another commander on a typ S 38 boat with an old windscreen. KB Krönke also took photos of the boats No .....4, 5 and mainly 6. There were at least 7 boats training that day.

wahrscheinlich sind der Obersteuermann links in der Titelbild-Zeile und rechts oben in der Fotoserie dieselbe Person (sie tragen dasselbe Halstuch).
Möglich wären Grüger oder Theenhausen

Yes, it is the same Ostrm. I think there is a possibility that it is Ostrm Schenke. He later commanded S 64 when 2 S-SchulFtl became operational. There is a film (available through Critical Past) that shows S 64. I think it could be Ostrm Schenke with the field glasses. There is an officer with him. Could it be Kptln Klose?

It is still only a possibility. More information is needed.

(Ostrm Wildner in S 76 2 S-SchulFtl is also a candidate)

I don't have the skill to remove the water mark on the best photo but the small one has convinced me. It is Klose with 2 S-SchulFtl.

- ein interessantes Schiff weit entfernt am Horizont ...

Meiner Ansicht nach steht dort auf dem heck einen 2 cm Zwilling, rechts das Schild und links die beiden nach oben gerichtete Läufe die aufgrund der Perspektive so eng nebeneinaderstehen, das es wie ein Rohr aussieht. EIn 4 cm Bofors hätte nach noch die Visieren an den Stangen die ebenfalls nach ober gerichtet wären. Ich habe mal meine beiden Modelle zeichnerisch nebeneindergestellt um die Unterschiede etwas explizieter darzustellen/nachzuweisen.

Very nice drawing. I guess it is in 3D so you have turned it around to match the photo.

I think it proves the 2 cm Zwilling. It looks like the have folded down the sight and the small armor plate and put a cover on.

Hi Urs,

Yes, It is also interesting to follow the S 64 photographs. I found another one. It shows S 64 leaving Swinemünde (late afternoon 1944?) with the 2 S-SchulFtl marking. It also confirms the twin 2 cm C/38 as main gun.
