Guten Tag allerseits,

anbei ein Foto aus Familienbesitz, das vermutlich den Marine-Stabsarzt Dr. Fritz Gregor zeigt, zu dem ich hier in diesem Blog schon Einiges geschreiben hatte.

Anhand der Vegetation im Hintergrund vermute ich, dass das Bild Ende 1943 oder 1944 an einem der Standorte der S-Flottillen im Mittelmeerraum aufgenommen wurde. Gregor müsste der Offizier vorne rechts im Bild sein. Zu der Zeit war Gregor als Stabsarzt auf verschiedenen Booten (24. S-Flt. von Juli 43 - Okt. 44, danach 3. S-Flt. bis Jan. 45. Im Anschluss 8. und 5. S-Flt. in Holland. Dort im März 45 auf S-181 gefallen).

Das Bild könnte also m.E. von einem Stützpunkt in Piräus oder in Pola stammen. Vorne die große Schiene könnte Teil einer Slipanlage sein?

Dazu hätte ich bitte 2 Fragen: war es üblich, dass die Besatzungen in den Häfen solche Arbeitsuniformen trugen? Es scheint, als trügen im Hinergrund noch 3-4 weitere Soldaten weiße Mützen. Oder liege ich gänzlich falsch, und es handelt sich bei den Soldaten im Hintergrund um eine andere Truppengattung? Und wer könnte wohl der andere Offizier im Vordergrund sein (ich weiß, das herauszufinden dürfte kaum möglich sein...)?

Wenn ich es richtig erkenne, handelt es sich aufgrund der klimatischen Bedingungen dort um sog. Tropenuniformen. Es war nicht ungewöhnlich, dass insbesondere von den U.m.P. und Offizieren dazu eine weiße Mütze getragen wurde.

Hi Axel,

To me it looks like they are marching on a town road with a curb. They have all full uniforms (not work clothes). My best guess is going back from a  funeral.

I have attached similar photos (3 Sftl). It looks like they all have tropical uniforms except one officer in full formal dress (the Adjutant?) on both ocations.

das könnte gut sein. Es wäre natürlich ein sehr großer Zufall mit der Location, ... die Bäume im Hintergrund auf Deinem und meinem Foto sind zumindest ähnlich.

Hi Axel,

I think my funeral photos are from Palermo (based on other photo in the serie) so it is probebly not the same location. The men in your photo are wearing the blue Schiffmütze (not white as in mine), it could be an indication that it is winter, Oct-March (still shirt sleaf weather). Do you only have a singe photo or are ther others taken at the same time?

I found that the 3 SFtl Officers played the same mustach game as the 8 Sftl did in Norway. The photos are taken from scaned negatives and are not perfect. Sylvester 1942/43?

Hello,

On 28 February 1943, S 35 (Oberleutnant zur See Stolzenburg) was blown up on a mine about 18 miles north of Ras Dukara (Tunisia). Can anyone provide exact Grid coordinates?  Although one can guess them, I have found no document which gives a precise position. I am also looking for photos of S 35 and Stolzenburg.

I think it is impossible to give an exact position.
From 02.15 on the three boats operated seperately so there were no witnesses nor any survivors who could give an exact position.

Es liegt ein Kartenanhang zum KTB der 3. S-Fltl vom Februar 1943 vor, der die Fundposition der Wrackteile angibt (siehe Anhang)
We have a Annex to the 3rd S-Fltl war diary with the map showing the position of wreck parts found (see attachment)

Nun läßt sich leider aus Betrachtung des Marinequadrats CJ 792, dessen "Mittelbreite" 37^o 21´ N ist, erkennen, daß die auf der Karte eingetragene Breitenlinie "37^o 20´Nord" falsch beschriftet ist. Es handelt sich tatsächlich um die Breite 37^o 30´ N

Unfortunately, the latitude line data seem to be incorrect. By comparison with Naval Square CJ 792, one may find that it is not 37^o 20´N, but 37^o 30´N

Mit dieser Annahme weiterarbeitend, ist der Fundort der Wrackteile etwa mit 37^o 28´N  009^o 36´O zu ermitteln
Continuing with that assumption, the wreck parts find position may be identified to be approximately 37^o 28´N  009^o 36´O
