I am trying to track a ship which started her life as a German warship. What I know is that she was built in 1918 with dimensions: 42 x 6 m and a grt of 181.
She was later (date unknown) renamed CECEDENE I and I suspect she was sold at that time to Belgium interests.
She later went to Greek owners , renamed MEGARIS and operated as a passenger ferry.
Aside from her original name and type of warship, I am also interested in finding her fate. All I know on this, is that in 1937 she was still active.
Any help?
According to Gröner, Die Handelsflotten der Welt 1942 the Greek "Megaris" ex "Cecedena I" was built as the German minesweeper "FM 3". The dimensions you gave fit very well for this class of vessels.
But according to my Gröner, Die deutschen Kriegsschiffe 1815 - 1945 (1965 edition) "FM 3" became "Cecedena 4" and later "Minna" and was scrapped in 1935 :?. And there is no mention of another "Cecedena" or of "Megaris" :(.
Thank you. Lloyds Register confirms your Groner that, "Minna" was the former "Cedena IV" and "FM 3".
I suspect that "Megaris" was the either "FM 20" or "FM 48" both of which appear as sold to Greece in 1920-22 without any further information.
