Could it be that you are talking about the Type M1935 / 1939mob?
Because of this type at least 12 boats were converted to so called "Kampfgruppenboote" according to Gröner.

But I am not very familiar with these little boats.  :|

Thank you, G - no, it was not the Type M35 but the one taking over for them, coal-fuelled based on a WW1 construction. I am reading the book Kampfboot 328 by Kurt Gerdau. Originally they came with a 37/40 mm on the foredeck but some were rebuilt as so-called "kampfboote" in that they also had a 10.5 cm installed on the foredeck, in addition the the AA gun.

Hi, Fred,

yes, Groener mentions "sog[enannte] Kampfboote" as a version of M-Boot 1940, but names only M 294 and M 328, no other numbers and no total.

This is, however,an older version of Vol. 2 (1983)

greetings, Urs

Thank you, Urs - I have seen mentioned the number 4 somewhere but I am not sure if that was final.

I have another question: The picture below is from the rangefinder on the top of the bridge on M328 - "Kampfboot M40". I suppose this is the 1.5 m rangefinder, the same mounted in the aft on the M35 vessels, and not the 3.0 m forward on the M35...?

Hai

Gröner Version 1999 gave aditional M330.
But there is an z.B. (in English "for example") standing in front of that numbers. So I think there will be more Boats taken to "Kampfboote" (maybe the four you called) and even the Gröner doesn't exactly know.

Does anyone know a picture source where the operation of the 3.0 m. rangefinder on the Type M35 is shown...? Not the one below.
