Hans Kretzschmar is my Grandfather. Unfortunately before his death we never discovered which U-Boat he served on.
However, using deduction my Father has worked out that the U-Boat was possibly U-255. Can anybody confirm this at all??
I attach below my Father's thoughts as to why we think U-255...

On U-boat.net, they have now shown the surrendered boats. I've been through all 156 of them, and identified those that sailed to Loch Eriboll.
I then discounted the ones that were sent to N. Ireland, and then I recall that your grandad said he was stationed in France sop... I reviewed the war patrol records, and it left JUST ONE U-boat that surrendered at Loch Eriboll AND was sent to Loch Ryan AND patorlled out of St. Nazaire...
And it looks like he could have been in... U255
