moin,

https://books.google.de/books?id=oOiwCgAAQBAJ&pg=PA378&lpg=PA378&dq=citta+di+agrigento++july+1942&source=bl&ots=RCNX9o11x7&sig=P7JGRZCt0upDOs9sXfDsD6uNFzs&hl=de&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiG95WJ9uXRAhUIKpoKHdgwCYoQ6AEIHzAA#v=onepage&q=citta%20di%20agrigento%20%20july%201942&f=false

In Platon Alexiades' Buch werden die Verluste Brook (11.7.), Sturla (11.7.) und Citta di Agrigento (20.7.) genannt.
https://books.google.de/books?id=JHg7CQAAQBAJ&pg=PT112&lpg=PT112&dq=citta+di+agrigento+euryalus&source=bl&ots=Ng0nYODJu3&sig=EcmJVYhLRVno7RYYPcA3XGGz1S8&hl=de&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiy-qbDgubRAhWFPZoKHYnnDRcQ6AEIGjAA#v=onepage&q=citta%20di%20agrigento%20euryalus&f=false

Sqn. FAA aus dem Hafen getriebenen Transporter Città di Agrigento (2480 BRT).

Dann gibt es zur Sturla noch
http://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?184643

Hi,

https://archive.org/stream/wardiarygermann351942germ/wardiarygermann351942germ_djvu.txt

11 Jul. 1942

3. Transport of Supplies to North Africa ;

The following have been transported to Tobruk by the Siena
group: 206 men, 95 vessels, 15 anti-tank guns, 526 tons of fuel,
1,642 tons of ammunition and 172 tons of other army materiel. The steamer JAEDJOR and 2 naval barges arrived in Tobruk. Unloaded on 10 Jul.: at Tobruk 445 tons; at Marsa Matruh 547 tons. Three naval barges left Palermo for Tripoli on 10 Jul. At 1400 a direct hit was made on the steamer BROOK in Marsa Matruh. The ship burned up and is considered lost. No further details have been received.

2. Own Situation Mediterranean :

During the night of 18 Jul. 3 boats of the 3rd PT Boat Flotilla were off Marsa Matruh ready for a torpedo attack on the destroyers sent to bombard the shore. The PT boats were detected by
means of flares and driven off by the destroyers. This action prevented the bombardment of the harbor. Enemy planes caused slight damage and light casualties on 2 PT boats. For the short report of the flotilla
see Telegram 1215.

During the night of 19 Jul., the PT boats carried out another torpedo
attack off Marsa Matruh against the destroyers bombarding the coast,
but scored no results. The steamer AGRIOENTO was damaged by 4 hits and
sank at the stern. After repairing the damage, it will be possible to
move her.

moin,

Danke, cam top

P.S. Danke an Urs für weitere Ergänzungen per PN

http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205145396

http://www.naval-history.net/xGM-Ops-Minelaying2.htm

10. und 15. Flotille waren in HMS Mosquito in Alexandria mit US Elco Booten.

ZitatAttack on Enemy Convoy
3. An enemy convoy of five merchant vessels escorted by five M.T.B.s and two destroyers on passage from Crete to Tobruk was attacked by Albacores at dawn. One merchant ship was hit and left on fire. Subsequent reconnaissance showed this convoy to be in Tobruk less one ship.

4. The Albacores were flown to an enemy landing group 44 miles south of Sollum the previous afternoon. Bombay aircraft (n.b. of 216 R.A.F. Squadron) provided the fuel, stores, and personnel. Of the ten Albacores which took part it was unfortunate that only four located the convoy. All aircraft returned safely to their normal bases and there was no evidence to show that the enemy had any knowledge of this special operation.

Das duerfte also Brook sein?

ZitatWestern Desert – Operation ENORMOUS
During the night DULVERTON and HURWORTH bombarded Mersa Matruh harbour area; ships fired 400 rounds all of which fell in the in the target area. ERIDGE and BEAUFORT acted as cover and an ammunition ship which had left harbour, probably as a result of earlier air attacks, was sunk by BEAUFORT. E boat which were escorted this ship were engaged and driven off by ERIDGE. Two Italian torpedo boats which were sighted proceeding to the westward at high speed were engaged by the "Hunts" but results were not known. No damage or casualties were sustained by our Forces. M.T.B. 307 succeeded in reaching Ras el Rum Bay with a sabotage party (Commandos), but was unable to land them due to the weather and the presence of enemy forces in the vicinity.

ZitatWestern Desert – Bombardment of Mersa Matruh

The Rear Admiral Destroyers in DIDO with EURYALUS, JERVIS, JAVELIN, PAKENHAM, and PALADIN sailed from Port Said at 1300 on 19th and carried out a successful bombardment of Mersa Matruh harbour area. Aircraft spotting was excellent the cruisers firing about 400 rounds at least sixty percent of which fell in the target area. One petrol ship was blown up and other shipping damaged. At the same time DULVERTON and ALDENHAM carried out an anti E boat sweep inshore driving off two E boats and returned to Alexandria the following morning. There was little doubt that these bombardments were seriously hindering the enemy's use of the port and upsetting morale. The force returned to Port Said at 1500 without incident.

EXMOOR and HURWORTH repeated the bombardment of Mersa Matruh harbour area. Only six salvoes were fired since the presence of E boats and bad weather caused it to be discontinued. There was no air spotting over the target when the destroyers came to open fire due to their late arrival.

An operation to block Mersa Matruh harbour with the Greek ship GIORGIOS G on the 23rd was abandoned for the time being. The R.A.F. considered that as their fighters could not give full protection owing to the distance involved the operation would be impracticable. GIORGIOS G had been taken over by a Naval crew. The Operation was to be covered by COVENTRY, 6 "Hunts", 2 M.T.B.s and 2 Fairmiles. Preparations were however continued to carry out the operation at a later date with a faster block ship.

Schawdron F.A.A. Das R.A.F. bezieht sich auf die Bristol Bombay Transportflugzeuge der 216. Schwadron.

Schawdron F.A.A. Das R.A.F. bezieht sich auf die Bristol Bombay Transportflugzeuge der 216. Schwadron.

moin, Andreas,

italienisches Schiff ? .. aber welches ?

eine Hypothese :
(a) One merchant ship was hit and left on fire. (b) Subsequent reconnaissance showed this convoy to be in Tobruk less one ship.

Ich schaue morgen mal in 'The Ship Hunters'.

Alles Gute

Super danke Peter! Hatte Urs den richtigen Riecher.  :biggre:

Also mit ziemlicher Sicherheit R.A.F. Wellingtons der 108. oder 148. Schwadron.

- 17:13:22 dargestellt

@Andreas, zum 11.7. heißt es in der brit. Quelle "RAF" und bei Platon "Beauforts" , also doch "RAF"

Moin Urs

das obige hatte mich verwirrt. Beauforts flogen nicht fuer den F.A.A. sondern fuer die RAF. Die HMS Beaufort war der Zerstoerer.

Hallo Urs
