Hi,

Colleagues.
There is such information
- 31.08.-02.09.1944 In Gruppen von Boulogne nach Dünkirchen rückverlegt. Dabei Jabo- und Schnellbootangriffe sowie Beschuß britischer Fernkampfbatterien. Am 02.09.1944 AF 70 durch MTB-Torpedo versenkt.[2]

I have not found information about the actions of the British MTBs in the Dover Strait in this and the previous night. The Dutch  MTB-flotilla, which was based at Dover, in the fighting did not participate.

Can the AF-70 be sunk by a mine or a  aircraft? There are documents  which MTB sank the AF-70?

No. War diary of the 2. Artillerieträgerflottille states clearly that there was a combined attack of enemy planes and MTBs. The planes attacked with bombs and the MTBs with torpedoes. Several torpedo tracks were observed; at 01:28 AF 70 was hit by one of them and sank at 01:56.

Thank you, t-geronimo.

It is not clear why there are no applications for victory from the British.  Is not even information about that, which MTBs participated in the attack.  :?

Hi cam,

bevor das Heulen anfängt  :-D

WEEKLY RESUME (No. 262) of the NAVAL, MILITARY AND AIR SITUATION from 0700 31st August, to 0700 7th September, 1944

ZitatOn the night of the 1st/2nd, there was a considerable northbound
movement of enemy ships through the Strait of Dover. Two Canadian M.T.Bs.
drove oft' and damaged E-boats off the South Foreland; coastal batteries claim to
have sunk or damaged seven enemy ships which were attempting to pass up
Channel, and M.T.Bs., in two further actions, sank a landing craft and probably
sank two others. Enemy shore batteries forced the M.T.Bs. to disengage without
suffering damage or casualties.

Thank you, Darius!  top

This is useful information. Obviously, the AF-70 sank MTBs. But the question remains what kind of MTBs it was. At least what kind of flotilla and how much.
