This morning I happened to come across this IWM clip which shows a Pilabo 41 used during an early NATO exercise (Operation Jupiter 1951). It looks like the crew are French navy personnel and the location the Rhine or Mosel ?

Nein, Arjan. Es wurde nicht für die französische Marine gebaut, sondern am 29. April 1945 von den französischen Truppen in Kressbonn (Bodan Werft) erbeutet. Nach dem Krieg wurde es Frankreich zugesprochen und im November 1945 an die französische Marine ausgeliefert.
Kleine Entdeckung am Rande: - 23.04.1945 Drei Tage vor der freiwilligen Internierung deutscher Bodenseeschiffe in der Schweiz flüchtete ein Deutscher mit dem Pionierlandungsboot (PiLB 41) 535 in die Schweiz. Das Boot wurde am 23. April 1945 in Romanshorn von der Schweizer Armee interniert. [W]

... das bedeutet, dass das PiLaBoot, und vielleicht auch die anderen fünf, 1951 schon nicht mehr zur Bodenseeflottille gehörten, sondern auf dem Rhein eingesetzt wurden. In der Liste der FMR ist C1 allerdings nicht enthalten :/DK:

Vielen Dank Beate ! What a remarkable coincidence that the three Pilabos discussed here have consecutive pennant numbers (534,535 and 536).
My interest in these vessels started when I saw a pic of Pilabo 504 with Beutepanzer Oswald and LWS 1071 in her cargo bay. I later learned that Pilabo 504 actually belonged to the Hochsee-Lehr-Kommando in Terneuzen (until the summer ? of 1943, the unit then moved to Denmark). The history of Terneuzen is especially interesting for me since my father's family comes from Terneuzen and I live nearby.
I noticed that Pilabo 504's Schiffschronik in the HMA archive doesn't mention the Terneuzen episode at all :

Vielen Dank Thomas. Pilabo 501 also belonged to the Pi.Lehr-Btl.(Sf)/ (Hochsee-Lehr-Kommando). The Bildnachweis mentioned here (Landungspioniere im Einsatz (Trojca)) probably refers to the photo on page 62 of this book. There is , however, also a pic of Pilabo 501 in the middle of page 22. This photo was taken in the harbour of Breskens and also shows the Pionierfähre with the Matilda Beutepanzer. The exact date could be established if you can find out when a Japanese delegation visited the Hochsee-Lehr-Kommando.

I have found the exact date when the Japanese delegation visited the Hochsee-Lehr-Kommando. I knew I had these files somewhere. The following scans are from :
Waffen-Arsenal 137, Beutepanzer unterm Balkenkreuz by Werner Regenberg.

So the date of the pic with the Matilda Beutepanzer is 10 July 1942. It is therefore logical to conclude that the photo of Pilabo 501 in the harbour of Breskens was also taken on that same day (or shortly before or after that). This Matilda Panzer still had its turret but this turret was later removed when "Oswald" was created :

In the autumn or winter of 1940 several captured British Matilda and Cruiser tanks arrived at the station of Terneuzen. These belonged to Panzer Abteilung(f)100, a unit earmarked for Unternehmen Seelöwe. This pic is from my personal collection :

I think the Matilda which was later used in exercises by the Hochsee-Lehr-Kommando was probably one of these Matildas. I also have a pic of a captured Matilda in Antwerp so this is another option :

I've found this info about the FMR Constance type vessels :
"Les premiers chalands du Rhin en service au sein des Forces Maritimes du Rhin.
Vers 1950, la nécessité d'assurer la sûreté des opérations logistiques de la zone des arrières des armées par le franchissement discontinu transversal du Rhin en cas de rupture des moyens continu devient une préoccupation dominante des états-majors. Les Forces Maritimes Françaises du Rhin ne disposaient, jusqu'en 1950, que d'un petit nombre d'engins de faible tonnage, la plupart vétérans de la guerre, et de bâtiments réquisitionnés. Les premiers essais de franchissement du Rhin par des chars de 30 tonnes ont eu lieu dans la région de Bingen le 6 juillet 1951 avec 3 chalands type « Constance »."

Landungsboote 41.
7 ou 8 bateaux de ce type furent récupérés dans le Secteur Maritime de Constance, tous construits par Bodanwerft à
Kressbronn:
- 5 trouvés à différents stades de construction, sous les numéros allemands 536 à 540 et qui deviendront les
CONSTANCE 1 à 5,
- 1 sixième y fut ajouté, semble-t-il, qui devint le CONSTANCE 6,
- 1 fut trouvé coulé qui, après renflouement et remise en état, fut,pendant quelque temps, utilisé par le Secteur
Maritime de Constance sous le nom de LORIENT.
- 1 utilisé par un citoyen allemand pour s'enfuire en Suisse à l'arrivée des troupes françaises, le numéro 535, nous
fut rendu par l'Armée suisse en 1948.
A l'exception du dernier cité, ces chalands furent expédiés à Cherbourg ou Toulon en 1947 /1948 où ils seront
utilisés comme bâtiments de servitude. Mais, en 1949, les Forces Maritimes du Rhin qui, jusque là, avaient, essenti-
ellement une mission de police, reçurent de nouvelles missions d'ordre strictement militaire dont celle de franchis-
sement. A ce titre, 3 de ces chalands vont lui être affectés:
- le chaland rendu par l'Armée suisse qui, après remise en état à Constance, arrivera le premier et sera en service
le 1er Octobre1949, suivront:
- le CONSTANCE 1, venu de Cherbourg par voies d'eau et arrivé à Coblance le 20 Octobre 1950,
- le CONSTANCE 3, venu de Toulon par voie ferrée et qui, le 1er Octobre 1950, n'est pas encore là.
Ces chalands sont alors connus sous les sigles C1, C2 et C3 (mais qui est qui?) puis, C 9096, C 9097 et C 9099
et, enfin, L 996, L 997 et L 999.
Caractéristiques et premier essai de franchissement ayant déjà été donnés, je signalerai seulement leur départ des
F M R: le 17/11/1955 pour les L 997 et L 999, qui vont à Toulon, et le 2/12/1955 pour le L 996 affecté à Brest."
