Hi all,
At 2116B on 7 May 1942, U-157 evaded two torpedoes in Grid BE 3424, which has it centre in position 49°57'N, 15°25'W.
This attack is linked to HMS P 44 (renamed HMS United in mid February 1943).
However this does not match up as the attack by P 44, on an eastbound U-boat, was at 1552B/7 in position 45°06'N, 12°58'W.
According to her KTB the eastbound U-154 at 1600B/7 was in grid BE 9346 which is centred in position 45°09'N, 12°35'W. Distance between these two positions is about 16 miles which is a tolarable difference. U-154 however reported nothing.
U-157 reported seeing two torpedo tracks but I can't place an Allied submarine in or near the position reported.
I presume U-157 sighted porpoises (fish).
I presume the target of the attack by P 44 was U-154 but she did not notice the attack.
It is always possible I have overlooked something and I am open to suggestions if somebody else has something to add or correct.
For now I will change the target of the attack by HMS P 44 on her page on uboat.net to most likely U-154.

Vielen Dank, Brian, für diese sorgfältige Analyse. top top
Ich habe in ASA den Angriff von UNITED umgewidmet, lasse aber auch den Angriff auf U 157 noch drin.

Thank you Brian for sharing your (great!) review of HMS P 44's attack. :TU:)
Nothing to correct on your side.
However, DUIKBOOT's master DB-file was corrected: target probably U154 (not U157).
Met vriendelijke groeten,
