Spoke fluent Japanese.
On 9 Aug 1942 he sailed aboard TANNENFELS from Yokohama enroute to Germany approved to enter the Navy School Mürwik as a naval cadet.
On 30 Aug 1942 he was requisitioned from TANNENFELS and drafted to join the crew of THOR-2 as a Matrose. Served as an interpreter. Returned to Japan aboard THOR-2.
On 27 Apr 1943 he went aboard the Japanese aircraft carriers ZUIKAKU and RYUHO for two weeks each, to act as interpreter for Hoppe and Schrein as they were learning about Japanese carrier operations.
On 29 Apr 1943 the Marine Attaché Office in Tokyo requested OKM/MPA issue a stammrollnummer for Rudolf.
Lost aboard UIT 23 when torpedoed by HMS TALLYHO in the Straits of Malacca; 26 dead, 14 survivors.
