From Munich. Entered the Kriegsmarine on 1 Apr 1939.
Assigned to the cruiser LÜTZOW from Jan 1940 until Sep 1941.
Listed as joining the crew of U 532 on 11 Nov 1942, the day the boat was commissioned into service. On 3 Jul 1943 he sailed aboard U 532 from Lorient. U 532 arrived in Penang on 30 Oct 1943. On 13 Jan 1945 he sailed aboard U 532 from Batavia. U 532 arrived in Loch Eriboll, Scotland on 13 May 1945. U 532 was surrendered to UK forces. He was taken into captivity from 13 May 1945 until 18 Jul 1948.
