Vor zwei Tagen fand jemand dieses Foto bei eBay. Es stellt sich heraus, dass es bestimmt ein oeffentliches USN Bild ist. Sofort kam diese Ueberraschung. Der Autor Roy Behrens oder der Verlag des neuen Buches ueber USN Tarnung im 1. WK schrieb folgendes:
Bild ist von der USN Tarnungseinheit der Entwurfsabteilung in Washington DC ca. 1918.
Die zwei Maenner sind der Kuenstler Everett L. Warner (Leiter der Abteilung) und der Architekt und Olympia-Fechtmeister Harold van Buskirk (leitender Chef der grosseren Marine-Tarnungsgruppe. Um mehr ueber diese zwei Leute herauszufinden, siehe Wikipedia Biographien. Andere Details der beiden und anderer Tarn-Kuenstler, Fotographien und Ausschnitte ihrer Arbeiten mit einer 37 seitigen Bibliographie und verschiedenen Aspekte der Tarnung sind in einem neuen Buch von Roy R. Behrens unter dem Titel CAMOUPEDIA: A Compendium of Research on Art, Architecture and Camouflage........

At the risk of being still more "strange but (thank goodness) informative," we can tell you that this photograph was taken at the US naval camouflage unit's Design Sub-Section in Washington DC, c1918. The two men in the photograph are artist Everett L. Warner (head of the sub-section) and architect and Olympic fencing champion Harold Van Buskirk (executive head of the larger naval camouflage unit). To find out more about both of these people, go to their Wikipedia biographies. Man kann die Bilder am Rechner gut verbessern. Ich benutze Google Picasa. Da kann die Sepiafarbe verbessern oder auf S+W umschalten.
Addendum: der Autor Roy Behrens schrieb mir, daß das Bild bei eBay ein US Navy Foto ist und kein copyright hat. Er hat Kontakt mit einem Enkel von dem Tarn-Künstler. Einige von diesen Modellen sind noch vorhanden, aber leider brannte das Atelier vor Jahren nieder.
Hier sind ein paar der 455 "Razzle Dazzle" Tarnungspläne, die im Rhode Island School of Design Archiv aufbewahrt sind.
