Good evening Gentlemen,
I would like to know if the following datas are available:
- number of attacks made by the German U Boote in the Mediterranean sea until 8 Sept. 1943
- number of torpedoes launched
Any help is welcome
Greetings
EC
Hello Enrico,
I have approximate numbers:
About 570 attacks (including some 70 with gunfire) and some 1186 torpedoes fired.
I hope this helps.
Best regards,
Platon Alexiades
Hi Platon,
your datas seems very probable. Do you have a sub-division among 1941, 1942 and 1943 (until 8 Sept.)?
Thank you again
EC
A lasr preyer. Have you got the German U boot in the Med. patrols too 1941, 1942 and 1943, or the total ?
EC
Hi Enrico,
I have the breakdown for torpedoes fired:
1941: 153
1942: 605
1943 (to 8 Sep): 428
These are approximate figures and I may be wrong in a few instances.
Computing patrols is more complicated as some overlap two years and I will get back to you in a few days as I am quite busy right now.
Best regards,
Platon
Thank you Platon,
I think that with your help we'll be able to submit the Forum an interesting confrontation with the Italian submarines in the same time and sea which could induce someone of the fellas to contribute developpin on original basis that analysis.
Greetings
EC
Hello Enrico,
I have some figures for the U-boat patrols in the Mediterranean. Again these are approximate figures and I am sure they can be disputed. Patrols that were interrupted early by defects are not counted neither are patrols where the submarine was lost just as it left the harbour (i.e. U 133). In some cases U-boats entered the Med and carried out a short patrol before reaching an Italian or Greek base, these have been counted. In other cases they went straight to their new base and this I did not include in my computation. Patrols that were started in December and finished in January were divided in half for each year.
1941: 27 patrols
1942: 116.5 patrols
1943 (to 8 September): 85.5 patrols
Total: 229 patrols
If you intend to compare these with Italian submarine patrols, bear in mind that German submarine patrols were usually longer (three to four weeks).
Best wishes,
Platon

Hello Platon,
it is a great surprise and satisfaction to find you here.
I just use the opportunity to thank you, for your great help, regarding the investigations of the French vessel Theophile Gautier. I also take the advantage to ask for your help concerning the U-133 (type: VIIc, sank 1942 near Aegina, greek mine). Everything you have, specially the NARA microfilms, regarding this u-boat are most welcome. I have been searching also for a photo of the boat, in the submarine archive (Cuxhaven) with no success.

DG
Hello Dimitri,
Unfortunately I have no photographs on U 133. Are you looking for anything specific on this submarine? Her war diary stops on 22 January 1942 when she reached Salamis.
Best regards,
Platon
Hallo Dimitris,
darf man fragen, warum du so großes Interesse an U 133 hast?
Danke
René

Hello Platon,
not really specific. I have an incomplete list of the crew and there are so many fables regarding this specific u-boat so that I would like to start the research heaving a stable base and accurate fundaments. For this purpose I believe that any information or war diary (pdf) could help me to investigate further and deeper in the U-133 issue. I just know that the sub sank (all hands on board), near the cape Tourlo of Aegina, after hitting a greek mine. As far as you understood, I plan to dive the sub which lays in 78 meters water broken in two pieces. I am open for any suggestion and any historical support.
Thanks in advance

Hallo Dimitris,
nein, ich brauche kein Foto von U 133. U-Boote sind nicht mein Interessengebiet.

Yes Jeronimo, thanks in any case, I have the list from the same source as you, but unfortunately it is not complete.

Vielen Dank
