SOKOl sunk BALILLA at 2.04 (not 2.40!).
Position is 38°22' N / 12°12' E.
UTMOST have nothing to do with BALILLA.
Attack on Navarino base was carried out on 21 XI at 15.39 and the target was STRALE (missed). Only 3 torpedoes were fired.
At 23.38 SOKOL attacked TINOS or BOLSENA but missed.

Hello Andrzej,
Both attacks by UTMOST on 1.12.1941 and 2.12.1941 were made on the wreck of MARIGOLA.
Platon
"Coligny" lost 19.11.41.
There was a motor fishing vessel of 49 GRT, built in 1929, homeport La Rochelle, which was lost by mine near Antioche lighthouse.
But a trawler of 600 GRT??
Taken from the French Shipping newspaper "Journal de la Marine Marchande" of 04.12.1941:
Hallo kgvm,
did the Coligny really sink on November 19th? I have seen November 23rd mentioned as the date of loss. Is there any additional information in the newspaper about when this incident took place?
Best regards,
Jan-Olof
No, that's all.
Hello again,
here's what I have, supposedly this text is copied from KTB 4. Sich.Div so there is a chance that the transcription is incorrect. Sadly I don't have the original.
23.11.41 Franz FK COLIGNY in Qu BF 6858 beim Einholen des Netzes (M) gesunken

And in Platons post the dates should read November instead of December.
4.11.41 in vicinity of TRIDENT were 2 conwoys:
The first one was ALTKIRCH, KLÖVEREN, FJELD, JANS in escort of NORDWIND, NORDKAP, RABE (in 7.30 exit from Honninsvaag to Kirkenes).
The other one was UTLANDSHORN, BAHIA, GRACIELLA, SCHILLIGHORN, M.15/17/22/29/30 (exit in 05.00 from Laa-fjord in Kirkenes, and minesweeper observed sub in 09.14 Uhr in 7349АС (13 miles north from Svaerholtklubben).

7.11.41 - K-1 did not lay mines on 12.10, and BALI can't sweep them. At time of attack she just went to Kirkenes (for sweeping mines in Bok-fjord mouth, this barrage was actually layed by K-1, sweeping was on 9.11).

18.11.41 Attack of SEALION on VESCO according to german docs (APK, AN) took place on 17.11.41 at in 10.45 Uhr.

Hallo,
The entry in KTB Adm Polarküste (APK), and then also in the Adm. Norwegen using APK as source, must be a writing error in the KTB. The MT Vesco was for certain sunk 18.11.41 (shelled 10.47 - 11.56 Norwegian time). This acording to the Norwegiabn civilian courtal hearing (Seeverklarung), and the patrol report of the HMS Sealion, both stating 18.11.41, and the same time of day. 17.11.41 the Vesco was on voyage Komagnes - Honningsvaag, and not in the Kjöllefjord area were she was sunk.

Hertta was not damaged by torpedo from SC-323
According to the official Swedish 'Lotsrapport' (in German Lotse-Bericht or something like that) dated 08.10.41, it is written that the Hertta collided with the German steamer Elin of Bremen, call sign DOMZ, on 05.10.41 at 2310 hours in position 56°37,18N/16°21,66E and sank. The Hertta was never salvaged.

Info given by Jan-Olof.
Rohwer schreibt: "German MTBs reported torpedoes which missed."

Patrol was shifted further to seaward next day, and after dark on 11 November, GLAUKOS moved to Suda Bay, which was reconnoitred by periscope on the 12th and 13th and found to be empty.
Trouble had been experienced throughout the patrol due to overheating of after bearing of the starboard main motor. This was now so bad that the starboard engine could not be run, and CO decided to leave patrol 24 hours early and proceed to Malta.
GLAUKOS passed through Antikythira Channel during the night 14-15th, and the next day, the 15th, ran into a NE gale, which veered to the east. At 05.50 16th she was heavily pooped twice in succession and suffered a good deal of minor electrical damage in consequence.
At 01.00 17th a signal was received ordering GLAUKOS to patrol position about 330 miles east of Malta to intercept an enemy convoy. Course was altered to comply, but 3½ hours later a second signal was received altering GLAUKOS' patrol position about one hundred miles to the SE. in view of the very heavy weather and the fact that only one engine could be relied upon, the CO correctly decided to continue towards Malta, where she arrived at 0800 19th without further incident.

I noted this attack in ASA

and the topic on the forum that goes with it.
I attach 2 pages of TRIDENT's patrol report.
It appears to me that TRIDENT was about to fire torpedoes at a ship of the convoy 'ALTKIRCH' escorted by M-class minesweepers at 9h45/04 when she was detected and depth charged. The attack was therefore broken off withour firing torpedoes. -- At 13h11/04 TRIDENT spotted the other convoy 'BAHIA' and attacked it with four torpedoes (no hits obtained).
Therefore I think the ASA attack is listed with the wrong convoy being attacked.

Brian's Argumente scheinen mir stimmig.

Regarding SOKOL's attack at 1540/21 November:
The target was actually the torpedo-boat ORIONE, the torpedo missing her bows by a few meters. The STRALE was present and sighted the torpedo track but was not herself attacked unless a torpedo hit a net. SOKOL had not seen the merchant ships at this time.

May I have a free chose ? :| A hint to a source would be helpful, Platon.

Report by R.C.T. STRALE dated 1/12/1941: "Rapporto di operazioni 19/11/1941 - 25/11/1941".
Both state the same thing only one torpedo track was seen and it missed ORIONE.

Hallo Thomas,

:MG:
Darius
The problem with oral histories is that they are often inaccurate. It appears that Ben Skeates confuses two attacks by UTMOST:
1. the one on 21 November which was not in the Gulf of Taranto but off Taormina (Sicily) and at the time UTMOST was operating independently (i.e. not on a patrol line). TRIESTE was observed to be hit by a torpedo "just abaft the fore funnel" [she was indeed hit in boiler no.3] but there were no other claims. 84 depth-charges heard.
2. the attack of 16 December 1941 which was carried out also on an Italian cruiser squadron but was indeed off Taranto and she formed a patrol line with UNBEATEN and UPRIGHT (not UPHOLDER). This attack (which is missing in ASA) occurred at 2234. four torpedoes fired, all missed. Position: 39°33' N, 17°41' E. The targets were most probably the heavy cruisers GORIZIA and TRENTO escorted by destroyers MAESTRALE, ORIANI and GIOBERTI, as they were sailing 10 miles ahead of the LITTORIO battlegroup. This attack does not appear to have been observed and there were no depth-charges that followed.
Ben Skeates in his recollection appears to have mixed both attacks and this is quite understandable when written after so many years.

Uboatnet has ORP Sokol damaging both Aviere and Berbera in Navarino harbour and near it, respectively.

The official history is uncertain on this, but mentions that Sokol claimed hits on two cases.
All the best

Hello Andreas,
The entries of SOKOL on 19 and 21.11.1941 in uboat.net are wrong.
1. There was no attack at all on 19.11.1941, no torpedoes fired on that day and AVIERE was in Messina at the time.
2. The first attack on 21.11.1941 was on the torpedo-boat ORIONE. The second attack was on a convoy consisting of TINOS and BOLSENA escorted by STRALE and ORIONE. Both missed.
Best regards,
Platon
