The Dampfer VALVERDE, 4.462 grt/1910 (ex QUANTOCK, launched 10.3.1910 by Wm. Doxford & Sons at Sunderland for the Tatem SN Co. of Cardiff, under Italian flag as VALVERDE since 13.12.1922 first with Lloyd Mediterraneo and later with SA Industrie Navali), requisitioned by the Regia Marina from  2.4.1942 to 26.8.1943, was intercepted off Castiglioncello (Livorno) by the KM minelayers BRANDENBURG and POMMERN in the early afternoon of 9 Sept. 1943 while sailing Southbound (from Genova or La Spezia for Portoferraio) with a cargo of coal and under the escort of the Motonave Armata PIERO FOSCARI, 3.423 grt/1928 (which, after being hit,  sought refuge in a small inlet there, being sunk the next day). After the arrival of six German R-Boote, VALVERDE was beached as a wreck at Punta Righini, abandoned, and broken up post-war.
I understand that a picture of her, of German origin, has been recently sold via e-bay.
Does anybody  on the Forum have a photo of the ship?
Thanks,

Francesco De Domenico

What are you looking for, Francesco?
Copies of the E-bay-offers (I made some) or other pictures of "Valverde" while still actively running under Italian flag?

I am looking for other pictures of VALVERDE, if possible. Thank you, Klaus Guenther.
