Hallo zusammen,
R. PARET". Leider konnte ich über beides nichts finden. Vielleicht kann mir hier jemand weiterhelfen?

Hallo,

21.6.1918 scuttled at Novorossisk to avoid capture by the Germans, by order of the

ELBRUS was sunk by the Master on the 21st June 1918 in a position 9 cables SW 3/4 W magnetic from
the Eastern breakwaters lighthouse Novorossisk Bay.
The vessel was destroyed by order of the French Military Mission in view of avoiding capture by the
Bolsheviks. She was sunk in about 12 fathoms of water. According to last reports the engines are in
good order and the hull does not seem to be seriously damaged.
Message 9.1920: question of obtaining compensation. Board of Trade suggests that as the loss was incurred
by the Belgian owners, it will be for the Belgian Gvt to include this case in their claim against Germany.
1919 raised but scuttled again to avoid capture.

3.3.1942 damaged at Kerch by German Ac/B (I/KG 100).
The tanker was delivering a critical load of fuel to sustain the offensive by Kozlov's Crimean front.
After being repaired attempted another run to Kerch on the evening of 2.4, escorted by a destroyer and two MIG-3
fighters overhead. Nevertheless, 5 He-111s (II/KG 26) swooped in low and launched torpedoes, one of which
struck the tanker's stern, turning into a ball of fire.

SKA-046. Between 18.59 and 19.02 German torpedo bombers dropped 6 torpedoes along the destroyer
and 2 along the tanker. The destroyer dodged torpedoes. The tanker did not have time to escape, and at
19.03 one torpedo hit the port side in the area of tank n°11 with gasoline. Due to the explosion gasoline
ignited, fire covered most of the vessel, so the crew left the ship. The burning tanker carried to the shore
and stranded 500-600 m from the village of Blagoveshchenskaya. Vessels saved 30 people and 2 corpses
were lifted from the water. From 8 to 12 people died on the tanker)

Super! Besten Dank.  top
