Recently I saw an article about German shipboard planes, it mentioned that even though the carrier Zeppelin was not completed, Bf109T planes still made test flights from a modified barge. So can somebody please help with the special barge, which sounds like a catapult merchant ship in the RN. Any information and photos will be highly appreciated, thank you!!

Februar 1938: Bf 109 V17, W.Nr.1776, ex D-IKAC, TK+HM, is shown at the instant it left the land-based catapult while undergoing tests at Travemunde on the Baltic Sea coast. The two small probes extending from the lower rear fuselage were installed to protect the aircraft at launch from the elastic belts of the catapult system. Note that during these tests, the required arrester hook was not fitted.

Hi redfort!
These two pictures were in the article I read about German shipboard planes, but thank you all the same! In the article it said the BF109T took off from a barge, not a land-based catapult, so maybe they were referring to different tests.

Hai

I don't know if Barge hits the point.
There is a Picture of a floating Platform with a Testing Catapult on it in Ulrich Israel's Book about the Graf Zeppelin (Page 108).
Maybe there are other kind of Barges but they are only for testing and i don't believe that these things are similar to the CAM Ships of the RN.
