Regarding the entry at HMA : "15.10.1944, 11:00 Uhr, in Marsch von Chalkis nach Volos im Geleit ,,JACOB 3" von alliierten Flugzeugen angegriffen. Die EVANGELISTRIA die mit Munition beladen war wurde getroffen und flog in die Luft. [D][E][A]
23.05.1948 nach dem Befehl Nr. 25068/2574 des griechischen Ministeriums für die Handelsschifffahrt aus dem Hafenregister Piräus gestrichen."
The location of her sinking is not off Makronisos Island like the Piraeus Register noted postwar. According to the attached extract from the German War Diaries the ship (Pi 260) was actually sunk off Pelion peninsula while attempting to move from Volos to Thessaloniki.
The mistake in the Register was probably made because the vessel had been attacked on October 3, 1944 by aircraft while on the Kea-Lavrio channel. Despite the damage and leaks, she managed to reach Lavrio and after a few days Piraeus.
