Sailed aboard KOTA PINANG from Bordeaux, France at 0730 hours on 29 Sep 1941. On 3 Oct 1941 while north of the Azores, KOTA PINANG and U 129 were sighted together by an aircraft from HMS KENYA. At 1745 hours on 3 Oct 1941 KOTA PINANG scuttled while being shelled by HMS KENYA. The entire KOTA PINANG crew boarded four lifeboats and after HMS KENYA hauled off, U 129 assembled the boats and rescued the survivors. U 129 then transferred the survivors to a Spanish tugboat off the coast of El Ferrol, Spain on 6 Oct 1941. The KOTA PINANG crew landed in Spain and returned to German occupied France on 10 Oct 1941.
