Good morning Hubertus.
I noticed that the HMA list for the Graf Spee crew does not include Richard Nitschke. Born 21 Oct 1919
He was a Masch Gefreiter of the  8. Division, initially interned in the province of  Santa Fé on Calle Juan Carlos Paz 2054 Rosario.
Repatriated with the Highland Monarch 16 Feb 1946 .
Returned to Argentina, moved to Hipólito Irigoyen Nr 1647 1er Piso, N "2", 1602 Florida, Buenos Aires. His name was also included on the Graf Spee  Kameradschaftskreis in Buenos Aires years later after returning to Argentina.
QUESTION: Any clue why he is not on the List? Perhaps misplaced under different spelling?
Cheers, Carlos

Hubertus

Hi Carlos,

Will add Richard Nitschke in the crew list for Admiral Graf spee, Don't know how i missed him.
There could be others missing also.

Many thanks Carlos
Cheers Herb.

Good evening Herb.
Well, to my limited knowledge you are right there are just a few names on the HMA Graf Spee crew list missing or misspelled.
Gerónimo is doing a great job correcting some of them and also entering the photos. This is a longterm ongoing project of his.
But for FYI and as an example, here is another name: Missalla. The HMA list has him just as Mis(?)...
His name is definitely spelled Missalla in the original Spee list typed immediately after the landing in Argentina. The subsequent "Nómina" also has him as Missalla. Interned in Santa Fé, Cédula de Identidad 989 date of birth June 30 1918, 6th Division Music Obergefreiter. He was also listed on the original repatriation list with the Highland Monarch Feb 16 1946 under the name of Missalla.
To my limited knowledge the first publishing (in photocopies format) of the original list by Ricardo E Laurence (1996) has it correct. However, there was a copied typewritten list that appeared in serial format on the internet in Argentina sometime well after 1996 (under a pseudonym but we know who it was) which incorporated several new errors and omissions. Its unavoidable. Maybe that is the problem? Obviously I do not know the origin of the HMA list. However, the HMA list  is particularly useful inasmuch as it incorporates (some of) the names of other prior Graf Spee sailors  of the pre war crews that  did not get listed for Uruguayan and Argentine internments cited by Laurence and others.
The recent publication of "Rostros" in Argentina presents a whole new series of  problems, because unfortunately it has a great many mistakes, even though it also republished the original list and the Nómina published by the Jefatura de prisoneros de Guerra in Argentina.  The mistakes are so many that even just a few errata sheets would be insufficient. It would require reworking but that is unlikely. Nevertheless there are several current efforts for a new publication both in Argentina and Germany. In my opinion, the best bet is the HMA list, correcting the few errors and incorporation of the photographs.
Cheers
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Mis(?) will be corrected to Gerhard Missalla.
The list i used i do not remember from where. And have no record of it now.
Many thanks for all your Info on the crew of Admiral Graf Spee.
