Hi All,

To aid in the search for the still missing Dutch submarine O-13 which had left Dundee for patrol on 12 June 1940 and did not return, I am looking, together with members from the search team of the Dutch Navy, for information regarding the German B-Dienst.

From Platon I have received information from a summary of the interpretation of intercepted enemy (allied) messages. This comes from a microfilm which they made for him, a long time ago (before digital photo camera's were around), at the National Archives in Washington (they were still in Washington at that time, now they are near Washington in College Park, Maryland). It was a file from the NSA = National Security Agency.

On this microfilm is file PG 17159 which is titled ' B.Berichte 1940 Band 2 14-26 ' and ' Vol.3 NSA/SRS # 548, 6 Apr. 1940 - 30 Jun. 1940 '.

Does anybody know in which series PG 17159 can be found (I can not find it in the T1022 rolls) ?

Does anybody know if this file, and similar files of the B-Dienst, is available in the Militärarchiv in Freiburg ?

Does anybody know if there are files available, preferably at the Militärarchiv, which holds all the original intercepted signals on which the information in the above listed file is based.

Kind regards,
Brian Corijn (also on behalf of the members of the search team for O-13).

Hi Thomas,

Many thanks.

https://catalog.archives.gov/id/5952558

This seems to be the series. I have send the info to my contacts in the Dutch Navy.
Seems to be the original files which thus most likely have never been returned to Germany.

Finding original signals, in Germany, U.S. or in the U.K. however would be of even more help.
Platon and I have never been able to locate them at the National Archives at Kew. But nobody of the public knows if there is more information available in the collection of the Naval Historical Branch at Portsmouth.

Kind regards,
Brian

ARANTALES

It seems some files were reproduced on microfilm, but I have been unable to locate a microfilm publication reference.

Hi Walter,

Many thanks.
Further action to get the files must be taken but I will leave it up to my contacts in the Dutch Navy on how exactly.

Kind regards / groeten,

Goedendag allen,

WO I/II onderzeeboten.

Hi Brian and Stef,

what you are looking for is available at the Bundesarchiv at Freiburg under record number RM 7/730. However, the PG number is 17235. As far as I know, XB-Berichte are not part of the T-1022 publication. But I would not expect too much from this in the search for O 13.

Hi Axel,

Many thanks for the input.
Perhaps the information can help rule out certain scenario's.

Hello Axel,

We, Toon Mariën and I, form the current team around the search for the Dutch submarine O-13.
Toon has replaced the well-known Jouke Spoelstra (LCDR ret.) as project leader O-13.
I myself have been working with Jouke since 2017 as reinforcement on the O-13 project. Toon and I hope to refresh Jouke's old network.
Fortunately, Jouke is still around here and we can still 'use' him.
Toon Mariën will also join this forum very soon.

Nice to see you on this forum and thank you very much for your reference to the B-file mentioned by Brian Corijn. A visit to Freiburg is very high on our agenda.

Greetings Stef (and Toon)
