Enrico, this thread is long beyond your original question. ;)
But that is no reason to stop it. Obviously no one here has the war diaries of the involved units, which are necessary to be 100% sure of how much german torpedo planes were really deployed against Pedestal.

Have you already tried Luftwaffe forums?

And of course we would be happy to learn one day what you have found out!!! :)
Gruß, Thorsten

Hello Chief.

The Lufwaffe Forum was unable to find the answer at the problem.

I will be happy to submit our Forum members my discoveries.

Anyway, in the meanwhile, if someone is going to translate the word files in Italian about the action of Calabria I published on 2008 to put them in the forum I will ge glad to send him the stuff.

      Augh

hello, Enrico,

Zitat von: Enrico Cernuschi am 27 September 2010, 21:16:41
The Chronology of the War at Sea is in fact based on the London Gazette's version and so reports just the same original mistakes.

As I said before, if you make a statement like that, you are expected to disclose your arguments, at least to the authors, so that possible mistakes may be corrected.

greetings, Urs

hello,

Going back in time to autumn 1941 and interpreting all data and links provided I come up with the question given below.

October 6-8, He 111 of II/KG 26 are reported to have sunk the freighter THISTLEGORM and damaged others in the Red Sea.

December 15-17, He 111 of II/KG 26 are reported to have attacked British warships during Italian convoy op M.41 and British convoy op MF.11 (BRECONSHIRE).

As the torpedo bomber unit, 6./KG 26, was apparently in the Black sea area, attacking aircraft must have been bombers (i.e. not torpedo bombers) and belonged to 4./- or 5./KG 26 , as the school at Grosseto had not been established, yet.

Is this presumption correct ?

greetings, Urs

"Thistlegorm" was bombed and sunk on a voyage from Glasgow to Suez at 1.30 a.m. on October 6th,1941, while at anchor in the Strait of Jubal, Gulf of Suez.

So I assume you're right, Urs.
