Anybody familiar with the building of German U-boats in Antwerp, Belgium during the First World War. Some newspapers suggested that these sybmarines were transported (disassembled?) with trains towards Zeebrugge. Other newspapers however stated that she left Antwerpen via the river Scheldt towards open sea. If the latter is correct, was the Dutch neutrality neglected. In Dutch sources however I have seen no prove for the latter.

Hello Ron,

the boats which arrived disassembled in Antwerp were dragged after the assembly upward the Scheldt to Ghent and then they were transported about the canal from Ghent and Brugge to the coast. This transportation lasted about 5 to 6 days.

Concerning the picture from H. Bendert:"Die UB-Boote der Kaiserlichen Marine 1914-1918", Mittler, 2000.

Hello,
Are the pennant numbers known of the U-Boote which were assembled in Hoboken near Antwerpen?
And during which period this activity took place?
By what means were the parts which were used to build the U-Boote sent to the shipyard?
Greetings,

Hello,
