Pall Mall Gazette - Thursday 23 May 1907

ZitatA Warning to the Fraaofa. Now it seems that the expedition in question, which has for its object the establishment of the Sultan's rule in Marakesh, and incidentally the punishment of the Mauchamp murderers, is to-day landing at Safll from the Moorish steamer Saidi. And, further, that the French Consular mission to Marakesh is about to leave Mogador for that city to sec the sentence carried out. There is little doubt that the advance of both of these expeditions will be resisted, vi et armis, by the fighting tribes on the line of march. Thus, from the foregoing, necessarily lengthy, details, your readers will gather that we have all the materials for a very tragic outcome of the exist* ing reign of terror in Marakesh. ' Latkr. mounted soldier has just arrived in hot haste from the Viceroy, who writes urgently warning the French mission not to attempt to proceed to Marakesh in view of the violent outbreak of anti*French agitation in and around that city. The authorities declare their inability to ensure the safety of any French traveller. The same soldier—who was attacked on the road, his horse being wounded—states that the whole European colony is preparing to leave Marakesh for the coast.
