What role did "Kadett" play on ships who were in action ? Did they take part on active service?

Normaly they were officer candidates. They had theory at the Academy and practical education on board either training vessels or vessels of the fleet.
They assisted in several departments (i.e. gunnery, machinery etc.)

Thankyou !Sorry for being a nuisance . Were they on board only when the ship was in port?or did they train at sea ?

They trained in port ( i.e. getting accustomed to a ship, finding their bunk or just any given place inside ) and then went out to sea. In peacetime they normally went on a training cruise.

P.S. corrected the typos in the last post, hadn't checked for the "helpful" work of autocorrection

hi,

Zitat von: bluebird am 24 November 2023, 14:58:26Did they take part on active service?
Yes, they did.
Before the war, the cadets were embarked on trainings ships (cruisers or dedicated ships like the old SCHLESIEN) on cruises in European waters or even around the world before the Midshipman-training at the naval avademy at Flensburg-Mürwik
In time of war, that was impossible. Thus, the cadets were embarked on ships or boats of the active fleet.

greetings, Urs
