Hallo cam,

laut KTB Hafenkommandant Calais ist am 07.09.1940 der Fischdampfer "Niendorf" vor Anker liegend auf Reede gesunken, etwa 12 Mann tot, 8 Mann gerettet, hiervon 2 verletzt. 2 F.d.M. wurde dringend um Absuchung der Reede gebeten.

Hi,

habe mal in die Admirality War Diaries geschaut.
Der Angriff vom 07./08.09.1940 ist in der HMA-Datenbank nicht enthalten.
Der Angriff vom 08./09.09.1940 ist relativ gut im AWD beschrieben.

1.) 08.09.1940:

Action against barges:
MTBs 29 and 6 sent to reconnoitre shipping lying off Calais reported a small number of barges at 0109 today.
Both MTBs fired one torpedo and claim hits and they machine gunned at close quarters at tug which was under way.

MTBs 71 and 72 sent to Boulogne hat to return owing to stress of weather.

2.) 09.09.1940:

MTBs last night patrolled off Dunkirk and carried out a sweep off the Belgian Coast, in the course of which MTBs 17 and 15 each torpedoed and sank supposed supply ships.[...]

MTBs 17, 15, 14 arrived at charted position Middelkerke bank buoy at 2321 and commenced sweep towards Zydcootepass Buoy arriving 0600.
Course was set for Stroombank Buoy arriving 0120 where couse was altered towards Ostend. When within 1 1/2 miles of breakwater it was decided to resume sweep towards Droogte Van Schoonewald owing to bad visibility and rain. At 0224 when at end of sweep. This track was reswept to S.W. and at 0234 about 20 merchant vessels were sighted at anchor about 1? miles 010° from Ostend breakwater.
MTBs 17 and 15 carried out two torpedo and gun attacks each. Firing one torpedo in each attack. Each boat obtained one hit with one shot. Results of the two other shots is doubtful.
Vessels sunk considered to be supply ships of about 1000 tons and 2000 tons respectively. Great assistance resulted from diversion of air attack on Ostend and from parachut flares. The only opposition offered was by a patrol vessel anchored to north of anchorage but fire was inaccurate. MTB 15 fired a granade at this vessel in passing. MTB 14 became detached at 0120 due to bad visibility and did not get in an attack. MTBs 17 and 15 set course for home at 0250. (C.in.C., Nore, 1?550/9).
